The Ignoble House of Petty Acquisitions
Venators (AN)
Lore
The Junior Secretariat to the Lower Commissioner of Petty Acquisitions, unaffectionately known as "Junior", had been framed. He was certain that he had not consorted with the commissioner's daughter, despite Rumbledethumps best efforts to get him drunk that night. Gerry assured him that he simply made the usual arse of himself. But nonetheless, he had found himself with six hours to leave or to face the Arbites. He quickly gathered the most trusted from his house, without a thought for the fate of the others. Sgt Gerry Hurling had always taken care of him, even getting him through this mandatory service in the reserve regiment, which had earned him his father's weapon - at the cost of his arm. He never did take to his augmetic and it barely functioned as well as his own. He missed that arm. The weapon was Junior's pride and momento of his father, and he had sworn to himself to restore it to it's former glory. That would be much harder downhive, he suspected. Not that he knew, as a coddled boy of the Guild of Petty Acquisitions he had no idea how most of the planet lived and simply did not believe the stories of struggle and squalor he heard from his time in the reserves. Surely no one could live like that. Yes, he needed Gerry if he was to get through this. Gerry had always been a great friend of Junior's father, and although his fascination with pyrotechnics was unnerving, it might just come in handy now. Yurgh was too stupid to stay behind, given - as he always was - to follow the last order of Junior's father to "keep junior out of trouble". Sadly he was also too stupid to do that. He was at least strong, and that gave junior some comfort. Lefty was also out on his ear. Well, horn. Did he have ears? It was hard to tell through the fur. In any case, as an abhuman he was never welcome. Yurgh was tolerable because he was servile, but Lefty had a cold, calculating look in his bestial eyes which set everyone on edge. Including Junior. And no one could pronounce his name, with it's grotesque combination of consonants and glottal stops, and he seemed to really hate the moniker Lefty. Amelia was a good sort though. Reliable, upstanding, if a little standoffish. She intrigued him, but he was too scared to ask too many questions. There was something about her that was quite frightening, truth be told. But she was always professional which is as much as he could hope for, given the circumstances. Hmm on second thoughts, perhaps he hadn't chosen so well, or barely chosen at all. At least he had his cooks, and one time regiment mates. Even if Rumbledethumps may have gotten him into this mess, he could make a meal from just about anything. Throne knows how he made even the rations taste good. But Rumbledethumps insisted on bringing Toad Trou and Cockles, and to be fair the minimal gastro-intestinal consequences of their recaff was unmatched. So that was some comfort. What did happen to the commissioner's daughter anyway. He had heard rumours of her speaking in tongues, or staring vacantly as if any something that wasn't there. Naturally precocious, Junior wanted to find out for himself but surely he can't have done anything to warrant this terrible punishment. Although he did have half a memory of her screaming something that sounded like a foul curse when he kept asking her questions... surely not, that was probably the drink. She had always been so... so... proper before. In any case, none of this mattered now. Junior was would recover his status, and rise to the role of Commissioner of the Guild of Petty Acquisitions just as his father intended. He was entitled to it after all. If only he new the chao- delirium that was taking over the hive below... How to play The gang came together as a result of some of my favourite kitbashes around the idea of a uphivers fallen from grace, with a sinister hint around the company they keep. I'm imagining a mixture of shooting and combat to keep things from being too one-note, with a mixture of risk and reward given fairly weak gangers and quite strong champions who actually have to do things to succeed in games. I do not anticipate taking on many new gangers, and instead leaning into hangers-on if times get tough. Unless it goes terribly in which case that may be a conversation with the Arbiter about how to play around this imagined restriction from the back story. :)
Notes
Gaius "Junior" Blink
Leader
Lore
An ignorant, sheltered rich kid. Full of entitlement, pride, and self belief, with little to support his ideas about himself. He is however, too stupid to realise this. For this shortfall, he may actually succeed through blissful ignorance. After beating a hasty retreat, he was allowed to keep his life at the cost of his eyes. For now, a barely functioning augmetic allows him to see as well as he ever did... which was always barely beyond the end of his nose.
Notes
Sgt. Gerry Hurling
Champion
Lore
Loyal to the guild, and to Junior's father, Augustus Blink, he takes pity on the boy. He had imagined that he would cruise into retirement on light duties under the weak leadership of the boy. However, the recent turn of events has seen those plans shattered. Now he needs the boy and his entourage as much as they need him. At least he gets to make things explode again, although the booms remind him of his legs. A pyrotechnic enthusiast, he learned to use his cane to launch explosives as well as a grenade launcher (also this was just a cool modelling idea that I really wanted to do! - Tom). Perhaps it will come in useful now. As the only truly connected member of the newly forged warband, he is deeply worried about the rumours floating up from the hive below... It does sound rather like the gossip about the commissioner's daughter. Oh dear. Retirement will have to wait. It's good to have the uniform on again at least! And it still fits!

Yurgh
Champion
Lore
Yurgh likes food. The runts make nice food. Yurgh was promised the runts food as long as he looked after junya, so's he's doing that. Yea, Yurgh like the mushrooms they do with the little spicy bits. Yum.
Notes
Amelia Vengor
Ganger
Lore
Ameila think's junior is quite sweet really. Harmless. Definitely someone she can manipulate. All the politicking and trading is fine, but someone is making some money here, and it seems to be the dunce. Yes, she can work with this.
Notes
Cockles
Ganger
Lore
Cockles just loves foraging. He and his pals were all in the regiment together, and followed Junior when his mandatory service was completed. Life was easy and food was plentfiul. Oh well, there's always a good meal to be had if you can find the right stuff.
Notes
Lefty
Ganger
Lore
A beastman pressed into service by Gerry, although he'd never admit it. He resents his station in life, but can't really secure a better one. Still, Gerry always managed to find a use for his skills. He can't imagine why selling stationary and such needs to be such a bloody business, but he's not complaining. If it all goes wrong he can always go out in a bloody rage. Sometimes his dreams are of charnal houses, but he can't explain why... Maybe one day...
Notes
Rumbledethumps
Ganger
Lore
Probably Junior's only real friend. They saw some things together, suppressing civil unrest in the factories during their mandatory service together. He was glad to land a decent job after all that unpleasantness. Who knows what they're getting into now though
Notes
Toad Trou
Ganger
Lore
A happy enough chap. He's really just along for the ride. There's recaff and sausages to be had anywhere, which is all he really needs. Juniors OK, and Rumbledetumps and Cockles are like brothers to him. He does miss his bunk already though.
