Midnight Sun
Overview
Operating Sector: 17-Delta, Sub-Vault Theta-7
Allegiance: Nominally Van Saar, but rumored ties to forbidden technologies
Colors: Iridescent black with streaks of synthetic cobalt; glowing hex-pattern armor nodes
Motto: "The void does not sleep, nor do we."
Backstory:
There are whispers within the Van Saar data-crypts of a prototype power core—Project Helios. It was designed not to energize domes, but to awaken machines lost to time. Long thought purged from the databanks, fragments of Helios resurfaced in the underhive, triggering an unsanctioned initiative deep beneath Hive Primus. The syndicate that answered this signal took the name Midnight Sun.
The gang’s origins trace back to a failed containment experiment involving pre-Imperial AI logic chains. Rather than report the anomaly, a cabal of radical technologists—led by a brilliant but exiled Prime—sealed themselves within an isolated arc-vault. Over decades, they modified their gear, rewrote their doctrines, and fused machine learning with Van Saar plasma tech.
Now, they emerge under the cover of blackout zones and dome collapses, following cryptic pulses only they can detect. To outsiders, they are scavengers or rogue researchers. But within the Midnight Sun, it is whispered that the sun has already risen—just not for the rest of Necromunda.
Key Members:
Prime: Viktor Drenholm
A former plasma engineer turned theorist, Drenholm led the Helios revolt. His body is laced with micro-quantum conduits that glow faintly when he's near relic tech. Tactical, calm, and ideologically driven, he believes the Van Saar must evolve beyond their reliance on decaying STC fragments. He views the Midnight Sun as both a gang and a prototype society.
Archeotek: Lars de Straler
A recluse with multiple cybernetic eyes and a voice that speaks in echoed layers, de Straler maintains the gang’s experimental tech. He speaks of “algorithmic gods” in half-joking tones but may not be joking at all. His custom rad-weapons crackle with forbidden energy, and he's known to trade “clean entropy” samples with unknown parties.
Augmek: Rhel Vexis
Once a promising Van Saar combat engineer, Rhel now serves as the enforcer of Drenholm’s vision. Clad in a heavily augmented exo-rig, she commands the gang’s fire discipline and battlefield adaptations. Her logic-routines are partially fused with Helios protocols, giving her a sixth sense in dome-wide power fluctuations.
