The Death Bunnies

“We hop in the dark, and we bite hard.”

The Death Bunnies are a gang of outcasts whose devotion to rabbits is as unsettling as their kill count. Beneath the floppy ears and stitched-on grins, they are cold-blooded killers—zealots who claim to serve the will of a monstrous god-beast they call the Great Burrower.

Origins

Their story begins in the sump-warrens far below Hive Primus. In a forgotten bio-lab, long-abandoned by its House masters, a strain of mutant Old Earth rabbits had been bred to survive on toxic fungus, thrive in perpetual darkness, and reproduce with terrifying speed.

When the lab fell silent, its “test subjects” escaped into the warren tunnels, where they evolved into vicious scavengers. Underhivers whispered of pale shapes darting through the shadows, stripping a corpse to bone in seconds—the Death Bunnies.

The First Prophet

Jerrik “Long-Ears” Thane was the first man to claim the Death Bunnies spoke to him. A dome-runner-turned-scummer, he stumbled into a warren while fleeing Enforcers. Collapsing in the dark, he awoke surrounded by hundreds of red-eyed creatures, all staring at him in silence.

The largest—a monstrous buck with patchy fur and antler-like bone growths—spoke into his mind. The Great Burrower promised Jerrik protection and power if he would “spread the Warren” above the tunnels and prepare the hive for its eventual collapse.

Jerrik returned to the underhive with a wild new creed and a gang of equally unhinged followers.

Faith & Rituals

The Death Bunnies believe the Great Burrower is digging toward the hive’s foundations, and that one day its tunnels will swallow the hive whole. They see themselves as its chosen agents, tasked with killing, scavenging, and expanding a network of bolt-holes in preparation for that day.

They wear crude bunny suits—stitched from hazard gear, scavver pelts, and insulation foam—each adorned with oversized ears and grinning rabbit masks. These suits are both a uniform and a sacred symbol, marking them as “surface bunnies” in service to the Burrower.

Tactics

The Death Bunnies attack like a swarm—striking from hidden tunnels, overwhelming their target with close-range violence, and vanishing before reinforcements arrive. They favor stub guns, sawed-off shotguns, and cruelly modified blades, often striking in total silence before finishing with a “hop and stomp” that leaves their victims broken in the dust.

Symbols & Rites

  • The Warren Sigil: Two crude white circles (rabbit ears) painted on walls to mark safe routes or trap points.
  • The Hop of Doom: A rhythmic, mocking bounce before an ambush.
  • The Feast of Fur: Initiation where recruits eat raw sump-rabbit meat in their new suit while the gang chants “Burrow deep, bite hard.”
