The low thrum of the engines reverberated through Orri Torberg’s cabin as the laager made its way through the blighted landscape of Necromunda. It has been several cycles since they had traversed the Necromagnium Underway and left the fastness of clan Tapferkeit, where Orri had spent the majority of his youth tinkering with techmites and hauling the scrap brought in from the clan’s various expeditions. Charter master Bjorn “Stone-Tooth” Gunsen had not been enthusiastic about bringing a ,still wet behind his beard, 40 year old on the expedition; but given the events of the past year, experienced kyn were in short supply. 

So far, the expedition had been unremarkable. They had several skirmishes with roving bands of nomads; however the savages had been easily repulsed by the expedition’s superior firepower. Outside of those moments of excitement, things had been quiet and Orri spent the majority of the time maintaining the great engines of the land train, working under the watchful eyes of the other grizzled drill-kyn. That was all about to change however: “Kyn!” the gravely  voice of the charter master echoed through the laager. “Assemble in the hall! We are nearing our destination, and it is time that I share with you the reason we’ve moved with such urgency!”
