The standoff between the Cult and the Spyre Hunters was almost immediately broken. At full throttle the Abyssal Ferryman sent their vehicle slamming into a cult rockgrinder from across the abandoned settlement. Metal clashing with metal, the collision was nothing less than spectacular. It was then the Spyre Hunters sprung their trap, quickly taking down one of the cult champions in a surprise rush from across the battlefield. The skirmish resulted in several cult casualties and a single Spyre hunter taken down after being vaporized by a direct hit from a mining laser. The nerve of the remaining cult was weak and finding that they had collected the archeotech that they'd wanted, the remaining fighters had fled into the night leaving the Spyre Hunters to deal with the endless hordes of hungering Malstrain monsters.
