Spire Intelligence Directorate (SID)

“The mind is the first battlefield—and the last line of defense.”

The Spire Intelligence Directorate, or SID, is more than an intelligence agency—it is the psychic bulwark of Necromunda’s aristocracy. In a hive where whispers of Chaos seep through the cracks of industry and ambition, SID stands as the unseen sentinel, wielding both data and the immaterium to root out corruption before it festers into heresy.

Origins

SID was reforged during the Warp Breach of Hive Mortis, when cults of Chaos nearly toppled the Spire from within. Conventional assassins and informants proved powerless against daemonic influence, so the ruling council sanctioned the creation of The Psykana Mandate, a division of sanctioned psykers trained to detect and annihilate warp-taint. From that day, SID became the Spire’s psychic sword and shield.

Structure

SID now operates through four specialized divisions:

  • The Veil – Espionage operatives who infiltrate noble houses and cult cells, supported by telepathic surveillance.
  • The Ledger – Psychic archivists who scour minds for secrets, erasing memories and rewriting loyalties.
  • The Mandate – Battle-psykers armed with sanctioned witchcraft, tasked with purging Chaos cults in brutal psychic combat.
  • The Black Choir – A clandestine cabal of alpha-level psykers who maintain psychic wards across the Spire, preventing daemonic incursions.

Methods

SID’s arsenal includes mind-scrubbers, soul-binding rites, and null-field generators, alongside traditional servo-skulls and data-leeches. Its psykers wield sanctioned powers—telepathy, divination, and pyromancy—to interrogate suspects and incinerate cult leaders. Rumors speak of SID’s Oblivion Vault, where captured heretics are psychically flayed until their souls unravel into the Warp.

Reputation

To cross SID is to invite annihilation—not just of body, but of mind. Their operatives are feared as ghosts in the machine and shadows in the soul, erasing Chaos before it can bloom. In the endless war for purity, SID fights not with bullets alone, but with the raw fury of the Warp—a weapon as dangerous as the enemy they hunt.
