Mauling at the Mine

Incensed at being shot at point blank range by the leader of the Pheromaniacs, Venoma Lisa, Road Captain Rex Skargil of the N16 Mining Club gathers his gang to deliver some payback. While transiting through their mine workings, they’re attacked again by the Ash Waste Nomads, with P. Plasmaton miraculously surviving a sniper shot to his armour. Battle lines drawn, both sides move to extract as much value from the mines as they can while they have chance.

Shenanigans ensue, and luck is hard to come by for the Orlock boys. New recruits to the Mining Club, Phobos and Orville, both get taken out of action attempting to get to a mining site, the latter twice pinning himself with a malfunctioning jump pack before being shot through the leg and hobbled for his efforts. Shotgun Steve manages to shotgun and capture Matasa before getting shot in the hand, later insisting “you don’t need two hands to shoot a shotgun.”

Billy the Kid and Rex both get bitten while prospecting, showing they’ve perhaps let gang life get in the way of their basic mining skills. Witheringly accurate fire from the nomads, particularly Blasti and Hadari, lays waste to anything in their sights, despite walls of smoke put down by Jack Oat. The Kid eventually strikes gold before getting shot through the spine while heroically attempting to save his boss as the nomads’ leader, Shugaba, web pistol in hand, bears down on him. Rex, feeling the pressure, finally finds something down the mine and, seeing his gang broken and bleeding around him, decides to bravely withdraw under the cover of smoke.

With one fighter captured and three in recovery with serious injuries, the N16 hobble away to lick their wounds, taking consolation in the fact they managed to make some money in the chaos, and prepare once again for their attack on the Pheromaniacs.  Rasa Ruhi on the other hand take control of the mines, put poor Godwin to work, and consolidate their incursion into the hive.
